Live Performance Demo (using Reason): Setting up
We improvised a techno groove with InTime tracking the tempo of our drummer. The bass part, provided by Propellerheads Reason, is integral to this improvisation. First we show how to setup InTime, then how to set up Reason.
To set up InTime, first enable tempo tracking in the main window, then set tempo sensitivity to 2. When groove tracking is enabled, the toggle light on the main window glows green. Next open the MIDI devices window (click the button whose icon the resembles a MIDI plug, in the bottom right corner).
In the MIDI devices window, first make sure input is enabled. Beat Clicks can be disabled, because we will be listening to the bass part generated by Reason. Finally, to control Reason, set the output device for Beat Clocks to MIDI Yoke Junction: 1, and enable Beat Clocks.
Now open the software that you will use to generate the bass part. For example, in Reason, from the Options menu, choose MIDI Clock Sync. Then, in the MIDI IN DEVICE, set the input device to MIDI Yoke Junction: 1. Now, go back to InTime. When you press start in the InTime main window, Reason will begin playing. In this setup, we start & stop the performance from within InTime, and we control the parameters of the performances from within Reason.
