Todays computer software forces musicians to think like computers. Musicians have to learn how MIDI works, how digital audio works, how to synchronize MIDI and digital tracks, and on and on. And, after all that, once youre ready to start playing, you have to follow the bang-bang-bang of a computer-generated metronome, because machines cant sense the feel of humans playing music. True, once you are finished recording something, there are some programs out there that can do some amazing things for you. They can transcribe your performance, improvise a bass part or synchronize a light show to your music. But if you want to change tempo, or just play with a groove, you have a serious problem, You are in for a lot of programming, synching, quantizing and hair pulling just to get a "natural feel." The natural feel that you know you could get in one easy takeif only the computer could hear what you mean.
Circular Logic is a music technology company dedicated to bringing recent scientific breakthroughs to the art of making music. While other companies are making exciting developments with highly complex musical applications, we our goal is to develop programs that embody musical common sense. We have already developed a method of finding and tracking the beat of naturally performed music. And through ongoing participation in scientific research, we are pushing the frontiers of computer music technology even farther. By creating computer technology that can listen to music, we hope to make computers accessible to musicians who dont have the time or interest to learn the idiosyncrasies of complex programs, and to those who thought they simply werent interested in "computer music" In other words, we want to make computers that listen like musicians so musicians don't have to think like computers.
